Sen. Elizabeth Warren delivered a keynote address at a Democracy and CFED Policy Forum celebrating the two-year anniversary of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), an idea that she first introduced in the Summer 2007 issue of Democracy. The event also celebrated the confirmation a day earlier of CFPB Director Richard Cordray. Warren’s remarks were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Robert G. Kaiser of The Washington Post.

The July 17 event was held in the Dirksen Senate Building on Capitol Hill in conjunction with CFED. CFED President Ida Rademacher and Democracy Editor Michael Tomasky delivered welcoming remarks. The panel featured Bill Bynum, CEO of HOPE Enterprise Corporation in Mississippi and a member of the CFPB’s advisory board; Julie Chon, former staff member of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee; Jeremie Greer, director of government affairs at CFED; and Mae Watson Grote, founder and executive director of the Financial Clinic in New York City.
